Turn off the lights when you leave a room!
When you leave a room, you may not re-enter for a while! Turning off the lights is an easy and quick way to save tons of energy!
Use fluorescent lightbulbs!
They may cost extra money now, but they last 12 times longer. A regular lightbulb lasts 9 months and a fluorescent lightbulb lasts 9 years. In the length that they last, you would have earned your money back! One fluorescent lightbulb gives you the same amount of light as 1 incandescent lightbulb but uses 25% less energy! That is definitely worth a little extra money now, because in the end you earn your money back easily! Also there are led lightbulbs. They last about 20 years, but they cost $100 each.
Walk to places and/or ride the bus!
Driving a car may be easier, but it wastes a lot of gas, which pollutes the Earth. This is the air we breathe! Plus, walking is good exercise! If where your going is not close enough to walk, ride the bus!
Turn off you computer, when you are not using it!
Did you know that leaving your computer on wastes 300,000 kilowatts of energy each year? To prevent this from happening, simply turn off your computer when you are done using it.
Recycle!
Have you ever seen a land fill? If not, the piles of trash are huge! Plus, the piles are getting bigger and bigger! This is because no one is recycling. Everyone is just throwing away everything, even their recyclables! Recycling is just as easy! All you have to do is take the list of recyclables and make sure that you put them in a recycle bin!
Recyclables: Aluminum, Aseptic Boxes (milk cartons, juice boxes, etc), Cardboard/Chipboard, Glass, Magazines, Metal Cans, Newspaper, Paper, and Plastic Bottles.
Plant a tree!
You can also help the evironment by planting a tree! You can either plant a tree or grow a garden. Trees can turn carbon dioxide into oxygen, which is what we breath! They also give animals like birds or squirrels a place to live!
Compost!
To help save even more trash you can compost food scraps, as well! Composting is easy! All you have to do is take things like orange peels or apple cores and throw them into a compost pile! About a year later, you have nice soil that you can use on your plants to make them grow faster!
Turn the water off, while you brush your teeth!
Turning the water off when you are brushing your teeth will save one to two gallons of water! It's something very easy, why not conserve water if all it takes is a turn of a faucet?
Collect rain water!
You can buy water barrels that go underneath your gutters, and then the water just goes into the barrel. Your hose connects to the barrel and you can use all that extra water! If you don't want to go out and buy a rain barrel, you could place a bucket outside. It does not collect as much water, but it will still help conserve water!
